Emphasis on how cultural values penetrate the social institutions (politics, economics) that determine health care policies and their reception by societal members. Effects of social and technological change on health care systems, comparing their effects across societies with differing histories, cultural values, and economic systems. Major focus on United States, England, Sweden, and other Western societies.
