DOCST 145S - THE PHOTOGRAPHIC PORTRAIT
A studio course exploring the history of photographic portraiture --which has described and helped define notions of identity, race, and gender -- as well as the work of contemporary portrait artists working in a post-modern age where representation and identity are deconstructed. Technical skills as well as conceptual strategies emphasized. Includes visiting lecturers who are practicing artists. Open to students from Duke and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and conducted on both campuses, alternating each week. Instructor: Ewald
